The Punjab Congress criticised Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for his claims that the state would one day attract foreign workers. The CM made the remarks on Saturday while addressing the students of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University in Bathinda.

Congress leader and former cabinet minister, Raj Kumar Verka, took a jibe at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), saying it is not able to solve local problems but wants to give jobs to foreigners. He accused the AAP leadership of betraying the people of Punjab in the name of freebies.

"Did you provide jobs to the people of Punjab who are crying for jobs. Where are the 300 free electricity units which you promised and what about Rs 1000 which you promised to every adult woman," he asked.

Verka said, "...whether he (Mann) will also give Rs 1000 to the foreign women who will come to work in Punjab. Will you also give free power to the foreigners? This is not a comedy circus, be serious."

He alleged that the law and order problems had either been solved within a week or all issues were sold within 10 days.

Further, Verka said that AAP leaders were indulging in theatrics in Gujarat and Himachal.

AAP, in their pre-poll promises, had told voters in Punjab that they would create adequate employment opportunities in the state to stop brain drain.

"We have to stop brain drain. Give us a chance, we are planning things which will make it possible that the foreigners (angrej) will come here to seek work. They come with a technique.. they are bound to come when we improve the industrial activity", Bhagwant Mann said while expressing concern over the exodus of students and families in search of greener pastures.
